I want to help you to cultivate a strong and safe connection between your mind and your nervous system so that you can become confident in self-regulating your thoughts and emotions, which so often impact problem behaviors. I am a firm believer in the concept of post-traumatic growth; humans have a tremendous capacity to embrace hardship, and emerge as stronger and more resilient versions of themselves. As a certified yoga instructor, I will often incorporate mindfulness, meditation, somatic experiencing and skills-based training to promote relaxation and improve emotional regulation.
I approach therapy holistically, considering how your context and environment affect your presenting concerns, and will also emphasize a strengths-based and solution-focused perspective, helping you maintain a sense of personal empowerment and activate your own inner resources to change your environment, context, and behaviors. Together, we will clarify what components of your experience you do and do not have control over, and you will learn how to skillfully navigate your reality. We’ll explore the struggles you are facing while I help you cultivate skills, perspectives, and behaviors that bring you into alignment with your core self. You will become more aware of mistruths and patterns that keep you from experiencing life to the fullest, and you will replace those outdated beliefs and habits with truth and intentional actions.
I enjoy helping people respond effectively to stress, anxiety, depression, and addiction through this holistic and integrative approach. Our bodies are an intelligent vehicle; if we tune in closely we can allow its messages to help us create positive change in our mental and emotional states. You’ll feel more connected to your body and your truth through curious exploration of your experiences, guided mindfulness, and intentional, healing, movement. I particularly enjoy working with individuals with a past history of trauma, attachment issues and addictions, as well as athletes and creatives.
Originally from the Midwest, I received my undergrad degree in Advertising with a specialization in Public Relations from Michigan State University. I worked in Detroit, Chicago and Miami in both corporate and nonprofit sectors prior to becoming a therapist. Studying advertising and PR is what initially piqued my interest in the human psyche.
After relocating to Texas and taking time off to raise my family, my personal journey compelled me to return to Texas State University to pursue my Master’s in Social Work. I received a scholarship to pursue medical social work, where I completed my practicum in acute psychiatric care.
Prior to pursuing my degree, I volunteered for CASA for two years as a court-appointed special advocate for children in the foster care system. I have worked with adolescents and adults in inpatient and outpatient acute psychiatric settings. Working with such a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds led me to develop my contextual and trauma-informed therapeutic lens.
Most recently, I worked in a partial hospital program and intensive outpatient treatment center for co-occurring mental health and substance abuse. I cared for a caseload of individual clients and facilitated multiple process groups on various topics, gaining valuable experience and expertise in the areas of technology addiction, sex/love addiction, substance use disorder, family conflict, failure to launch, life transitions, identity exploration, and building practical skills for managing complex mental health concerns.
I strive to live authentically by incorporating the practices that I teach into my own life. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and two young boys, training jiu-jitsu, practicing yoga, hiking, weight training, and traveling.
