I approach counseling with a gentle and curious spirit, holding the belief that we all have the innate ability to heal, grow, and thrive. Past life experiences shape our subjective realities and often create unhelpful thought patterns and emotional cycles. Symptoms of unresolved experiences can present as feelings of hopelessness, shame, confusion, anxiety, or lack of fulfillment. I’m here to help you uncover and release the barriers that are keeping you stuck. In session I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space for you to be introspective as I support you and guide you towards rediscovering your core self.
My theoretical approach to counseling is grounded in Acceptance & Commitment Theory, which is a therapy that combines mindfulness education with values clarification and intentional actions. People tend to consciously or unconsciously run from their problems in an effort to alleviate discomfort. While this coping mechanism can be temporarily effective towards not feeling, it only increases and prolongs painful, unwanted experiences in the long run. My focus in session is to help you make the shift from avoidance to acceptance in whatever way works best for you. I am very present and attuned to the energy in the room and trust my intuition, allowing each session to be flexible, and allowing you to go wherever you need to, to heal residual pain that is distracting from your ability to thrive. I provide empathy and compassion, while empowering you with the skills to facilitate growth and self-awareness through a variety of evidence-based tools.
I believe self-discovery is a crucial part of therapy. It’s difficult to heal and change when we feel lost and unsure of who we truly are at our core. The enneagram is an effective tool that I offer to bring into sessions. It is derived from ancient spiritual terms, and has proven to be an effective self-discovery tool for many people. Unlike other personality models, the enneagram provides a vast amount of depth and allows individuals to be fluid and not feel as though they are stuck in a box. If you are open to exploring the enneagram, I will gladly incorporate this into our sessions.
Finally, I view therapy through a systemic and holistic lens. I understand our surroundings and communities affect the way we see the world, and I am conscious of how this forms and affects each and every one of us. I have a genuine desire and commitment to helping all individuals. I particularly enjoy working with those experiencing religious/spiritual trauma, de-construction of faith, and relationship challenges.
I understand that the hardest part of starting therapy is taking the first step to find a therapist and reach out, so I am wholeheartedly happy you are here right now – contemplating change, growth, and healing for yourself, and would be honored to start the work with you if my approach resonates.
I received my Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University and my Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Texas State University, with a focus on relational therapy. Previously, I provided counseling services at Vida Clinic to adults, couples, & adolescents, and had the privilege of creating and facilitating different psychoeducation groups for parents and graduate students. I received comprehensive trainings from various clinicians and consulted and collaborated with multiple therapists and supervisors within the organization. I am also certified in the Gottman Method Level 1, which is an approach highly regarded for couples therapy.
For nearly a decade now, I have been serving individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs through non-profit companies. My experience working with adolescents in the foster system, combined with assisting vulnerable populations experiencing housing disrepair, has informed my view on trauma and shaped the way I help others heal. Throughout my professional career, personal journey, and education, I have witnessed how powerful and life-changing therapy can be.
Although education and experience is vital in this career, I believe our human connection within the counseling relationship is of upmost importance. A healthy and trusting relationship provides ample space for us to effectively and efficiently release unhelpful blocks and partner towards your highest aspirations. I cultivate therapeutic relationships with trust, empathy, and a sincere commitment to helping you feel seen and heard, as those qualities are allies in our navigation of your self-discovery, healing, and growth. Therapy is my true calling and I will feel honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
In my personal time I enjoy working out, exploring Austin, and traveling as much as time allows. I have three sweet fur babies whom I love dearly, and a supportive partner whom I am grateful for every day.
